Captains News

Hello Golfers,

I took over seven months ago with an enthusiasm to give back to the Club and our game. I thought my qualifications, experience and training as a National Referee would help lift the Club's Golf operations.

However, it has been made clear to me directly and second hand that my Captaincy style and efforts to improve competition management, course set up and particularly player knowledge of the Rules of Golf has been less than well received by the member quorum, unwanted by many and is a reason for players not enjoying their golf,  low morale and overall unhappy grumblings within the membership.

We have had a significant drop in member numbers this year and I have been made aware that several players have left the club as a result of my approach to applying the Rules of Golf to competitions and most recently my inclusion of an R and A endorsed Pace of Play policy at the club has upset a lot of players. This obviously cannot continue or the club cannot survive or be successful into the future.

I am a believer that you can't please everyone all the time however in the best interests of the Club I am clearly not the right person to lead the Match Committee. I have therefore resigned as Captain and from the Match Committee.

Thank you to those who supported me as Captain and I wish the Club all the best moving forward.

Regards

John Humphreys

Thank you John for all of your efforts.

The next Match Committee meeting has been postponed to Wednesday 19th June.

It has been noticed lately that there are a lot of scuff marks around the greens especially near the pins, possibly caused by shoes with spikes on their soles. Please don't drag your feet around while putting and holding the flag sticks to avoid damaging the surface of the greens.

The 4BBB Championships are coming up soon on 22 & 23 June. Please put your names down on both Saturday and Sunday booking sheets if wishing to play.

Cheers Nerida

Vice Captain and Editor

Volunteer News

Thank you to ALL the volunteers who worked on the course this week.

Reminder that it is a condition of ongoing Honorary membership that you contribute to the club. Volunteering for work on the course or at working bees is a great way to contribute, meet other members as well as assist in completing much needed maintenance for the club, without which our club cannot survive.

Pace of Play

  • Ready Golf is encouraged, 40 sec per shot.
  • Keep up with the group in front - if you lose sight of them, increase your pace of play;
  • Check the score card for the estimated tee time for each hole to see if you are on time or not;
  • Limit practice swings.
  • Watch where your ball goes and pick a landmark to help locate it;
  • Ask someone else to watch your shot if you are unsure where it may go;
  • Play a provisional ball if you are AT ALL unsure if you will locate the ball;
  • Look for and find a ball within 3 minutes - no more!
  • Move to next tee block once you have holed out - don't wait for all other players to hole out;
  • First player to tee, tee off before marking score card;
  • Walk purposefully.
  • If you are having difficulties keeping up, let the group behind play through.
